ARTIST STATEMENT RESUMÉ PORTFOLIO

What does the artist have to do to learn how to observe, and in that manner, listen to the sounds that arise from silence and appreciate the miracle of breathing? The disciples of any mysticism would propose some sort of meditation. It is valid. The other way is to come closer to the elements, water, air, earth and fire and the people that live close to them. Manolo Cocho chose the second option. He lives the majority of the time in "Real de Catorce", town that surged in the time of mine exploitation. Town which after the mines were exploited became almost a ghost town. Nevertheless, human do in fact live there. Humans like us, but the difference is that they have learned the art of observation. Manolo Cocho does know this fact and together with them, as if it was due to beginners luck, is learning how to observe more profoundly and with more attention. The result of this interior transformation is represented in his work. Feathers, branches, organic material, metal, clay, crystal, are combined to represent the mysteriousness of nature, on a deeper level, one of which the earth and wisdom are united. The materials that give form and contain us: Water- mirror on which our feelings are impregnated and the desire to be included to a whole that not only includes but at the same time is superior to us. Fire- the spiritual impulse which takes him to conquer virgin territories to create new altars. And air- which allows us to communicate whatever we can not say with words. Manolo Cocho represents in his art this encounter between man and the cosmic powers, between the microcosms, which symbolizes any human soul and the macrocosms, and its profound beauty impossible to comprehend but in small sparks. This instants of time on which time is stopped, like in the art of the finder Manolo Cocho, observant of the origins.
